Michael Stengle, President
Michael is a seasoned veteran in the commercial general contracting field, beginning as a laborer in 1982
at a well-recognized commercial general contractor that generated 30-40 million dollars per year in
revenue. His field knowledge and great work ethic helped promote him quickly to the main office within
his first year. He worked with experienced estimators and picked up the pricing aspect of construction
quickly. After a few years he became Head Estimator, then promoted to Vice President of Estimating and
then was honored to receive the promotion to Vice President of Operations. His twenty year journey with
this general contractor saw him supervising project managers and superintendents; working with the
accounting staff and working directly with the company owners. Michael started Sequoia General
Contracting Corp. in 2003. His main responsibilities include meeting new clients and forming lasting
relationships. Michael lives and breathes customer satisfaction, thus exemplifying his company’s motto:
Quality. Experience. Integrity.
Michael is married to his wife Beverly, and they have two daughters, Christina (Tina) and Sara. Daddy’s
little girls are both entering the medical world and will finish college soon.
Beverly Stengle, Treasurer
Beverly has been with the Sequoia team since September 2003. Her responsibilities as Treasurer include
payroll, taxes, human resources, and marketing. Beverly has worked in many different roles since
starting with Sequoia. She has handled bid documents, accounts payable invoicing and payments, accounts
receivable invoicing and payments. Learning the construction business has been challenging and
Beverly is married to Michael Stengle and together they have two children: Christina and Sarah.
Christina is married to Steven Burch. Beverly enjoys scrapbooking, knitting and crocheting.
Dave Blasi, Vice-President
A graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Art Degree in Construction Management,
Dave has been in the construction industry since 1994 and a member of the Sequoia team since March of
2004. As Vice President, Dave oversees and assists the project managers with: incoming project
opportunities, bidding schedule, outgoing proposals, current work in progress, superintendent
scheduling, and project close outs. Dave and his wife Amy have two children.
David Rekstad, Project Manager
A graduate of University of Louisiana - Monroe with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Construction, David also completed the Associated General Contractors Advanced Management Program in 1989. David has been in the construction industry since 1975 and has been part of the Sequoia team since March of 2007. His responsibilities include budgeting and estimating projects as well as the management of these projects through to their completion. His experience is vast; having been in many rolls from project superintendent, estimator and project manager on a wide variety of projects. David has a strong background in religious contracts.
David and his wife Janice have a son, Matthew and he is also step-father to Janice’s daughter Nicole. He is the proud grandfather to Michaela. David enjoys spending time on the golf course, especially with his son.
Tim Clark, Project Manager
A graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Construction Management.
Tim has been in the construction industry since 2002 and has been part of the Sequoia team since May
2011. Tim has held positions as estimator, purchasing agent, project engineer and project manager. His
responsibilities at Sequoia include budgeting and estimating projects and the management of these
projects through their completion once awarded. Tim has a strong background in restaurant work.
Tim and his girlfriend Gina, have a son, Jacob and he is also a step-father to Gina’s son Brandyn. Tim
enjoys fishing, cooking and spending time with his family when he is not working.
Ruth Pearson, Vice Treasurer
Ruth started at Sequoia General Contracting Corp. as an Administrative Assistant in 2008 and
currently holds the position of Vice Treasurer. Her current responsibilities include accounts
payables and receivables. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from
Arkansas Tech University and has been working in the construction industry since 1986.
Ruth has one daughter, Sarah. When not working, Ruth enjoys reading and spending time with
Chris Obrecht, Superintendent
A graduate of Iowa State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Engineering. Chris
has been in the construction industry since 1998 and has been part of the Sequoia team since September
2003. His responsibility as a superintendent includes: review of project construction drawings for
constructability details, value engineering review, project safety plan, quality control, and work task
coordination and sequencing. Chris has served as a project engineer and site superintendent on many
projects. While working on these projects, Chris has gained invaluable knowledge in learning how to work
with all different personalities from the beginning to completion of projects.
Chris and his wife Michelle together they have three children: Julie, Jenna and Caden. Chris enjoys all
sports and being outside. Chris is also a talented carpenter, tackling many projects at home and for
family and friends.
Steve James, Superintendent
A graduate of Bradley University - Peoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil
Engineering/Construction Management. Steve has been in the construction industry since June
1974 and has been part of the Sequoia team since April 2011 in the capacity of project manager
as well as superintendent. His responsibility, as superintendent, includes: review of project
construction drawings for constructability details, value engineering review, project safety plan,
quality control, and work task coordination and sequencing. Project manager responsibility
duties include: project budgets ,trade item estimating, contract preparation and execution,
scope revision pricing with contract modification, billing schedule with cash flow projection
reports, shop drawing review and submittals, quality work observation, and project status
reports. This unique opportunity of serving as project manager and project superintendent, on
many projects spanning over four decades, has allowed Steve to acquire the skills of
constructing a project from the management end as well as the challenging aspects of direct
field supervision. Steve’s skill and success in the construction field is built on his genuine belief
of treating people fairly and listening to what people have to say, weighing their input, then
making a solid decision to advance forward. Steve’s core belief for a successful project is
having all participants truly believe it was a team effort. The success of Steve’s projects are the
direct result of careful planning and scheduling, communication to subcontractors of
expectations for safety, quality and scheduling milestones, and walking the job the majority of
the day observing safety, quality and progress.
Steve is blessed to have two sons Evan and Ryan, and is the happy grandfather of Emerson
Marie. Steve enjoys golfing, fixing things around the house and helping neighbors.
Joe Brooks, Superintendent
Joe attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, receiving his Bachelors of Science
Degree in Education and earned his Associates of Arts degree from Elgin Community College.
Joe has been in the construction industry since 1978 and has been part of the Sequoia team
since February of 2014. His responsibilities include: budgeting, estimating, and project
management of construction projects through to their completion. His experience in commercial
development, interior remodeling and tenant improvement work with Sequoia has been
extensive in such a short period of time. Joe has been involved as an estimator, project
manager and project superintendent on a variety of projects in downtown Naperville, Illinois.
Joe is married to his wife Joanna and they have four sons. Joe enjoys spending time outdoors,
all kinds of sports, music, do-it- yourself projects and spending time with family and friends.
David Lee, Superintendent
David began his construction career in 1990 where he worked in the residential field for five years. In 1995, David
moved into the commercial carpentry field where he worked as a carpenter foreman with the same company for 18
